The Action Congress of Nigeria in Oyo State has urged the Inspector General of Police to investigate an allegation by the People's Democratic Party in the state that the state anti-crime outfit, Operation Burst, is being used to witch-hunt perceived political enemies of the government.
The party, in a statement made available to reporters on Monday by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Dauda Kolawole, described the allegation as unfounded.
It added that the allegation was intended to heat up the polity.
The statement read, "PDP made a baseless, puerile and illogical allegation. An end must come to PDP's long years of tar-brushing its opponents for political advantage."
It said the investigation was necessary to put an end to what it called a regime of lies and unfounded allegations.
It further said, "While we had always known the PDP to be a nest of liars, we never knew its operatives and faithful also didn't have respect for the sacredness of facts and figures.
"The people of Oyo State know that Ajimobi's government is modern and cannot stand thugs and violence. They also know that, but for Operation Burst, the crime rate in Oyo would have quadrupled."
