Enugu Rangers risk the wrath of Confederation of African Football should Shooting Stars Sports Club decide to enforce their ownership rights over goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel who is yet to be cleared by the Ibadan club for transfer.
Rangers may be sactioned for fielding an ineligible player in the continental encounter.
The Flying Antelopes featured Daniel in a CAF Confederation Cup tie with Tunisian club CS Sfaxien last week before fielding him again against Sunshine Stars in a Week 15 league in Enugu which the hosts won 2-0.
But Shooting Stars are claiming the goalkeeper is still in contract with them and have not been released to any club, thus he is ineligible to play for Rangers.
Shooting Stars media officer, Jubril Arowolo, told The PUNCH on Monday that the club had not concluded negotiation with Rangers on the player, question how the Enugu club got the transfer documents to own him.
"Daniel took permission last November to visit his family in Kaduna but he never return to the team. We suddenly saw that he was training with Rangers when the season started," Arowolo said:
"We know there's no way Rangers would field the player without the consent of someone in the League Management Committee. We didn't want to create any problem for Rangers but the way they've gone about the matter is criminal and we're ready to fight for what is ours."
Rangers media officer, Foster Chime, claimed the issue had been resolved by the NFF and the LMC. He, however, failed to say who cleared the goalkeeper and when he was cleared.
Documents with Shooting Stars revealed that Rangers requested the services of Daniel from the Ibadan club on November 2, 2012 in a letter signed by Joseph Onwukwe.
In a letter dated March 5, Rangers offered N2.5m for the goalkeeper but Shooting Stars said the would release him on a season-long loan deal for N3m. That was the last time both sides communicated on the goalkeeper's transfer deal.
