Nigeria judiciary and certificate forgery

Permit me a space in your widely read newspaper to express my view on the case of certificate forgery levelled against some individuals. It is worrisome that despite this, they contested elections and won to become governors.

I weep for my country Nigeria because in a recent similar case involving a governor, the judiciary said it was a pre-election matter. Whether pre-election or not, the accused was to tender his documents for all to see.

This same scenario once played out in the case of a former speaker of the House of Representatives. I begin to wonder about the Nigerian state and the judiciary.

There should be a clarification in the constitution for us to know if some persons are permitted to present fake certificates for election purposes.

Also, we should know if those ones are above the Nigerian law? The Nigeria constitution is clear on the required qualifications for those who occupy certain public offices. Until this is addressed, I think our judiciary needs amnesty too.
