It was reported recently in one of the national dailies (not The PUNCH) that the West African Examinations Council had banned a total of 113 schools nationwide for various acts of malpractices. I am not impressed. Indeed, it is a travesty of justice. I was in Lagos not too long ago to sort out an issue with the school where my niece had registered for her school certificate exams. It opened my eyes to the fact that only a handful of schools are not involved in exam malpractices. So, how did WAEC come up with only just a few schools in Lagos? Is it that some schools are being shielded? We shouldn't deceive ourselves. The education sector shouldn't be allowed to sink to the level of other sectors in Nigeria where truth has gone on vacation.
