Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State has threatened to drag the Ekiti State Government before the court for the alleged destruction of billboards of its governorship aspirants.
The party chairman in the state, Mr. Makanjuola Ogundipe, said this at a briefing in Ado Ekiti on Thursday.
Ogundipe said it was unfortunate that officials of State Signage and Advertisement Agency destroyed billboards of its aspirants even when they had paid the stipulated signage fees.
Displaying photocopies of payment receipts issued to some of its aspirants, Ogundipe alleged that the agency's officials destroyed the billboards because the ruling party, the Action Congress of Nigeria, wanted to wipe out the opposition party in the state.
He said, "The boards were not erected illegally; the signage fees were duly paid for. We will go to court if the government continues in this manner.
"We are law-abiding citizens, this latest onslaught is a display of high-level of political in tolerance and provocation, but we shall seek legal redress in court.
"However, we are calling on all stakeholders in this state to caution the governor and his agents."
Our correspondent on Thursday could not get the Director-General of the agency, Mr. Adewole Ajakaiye, for his reaction to the fresh allegation.
However, on Tuesday, he had denied the allegation, saying the billboard owners did not pay the required fees.
