Elder brother to Dr. Ariyo Adewunmi, the slain immediate past Vice Chairman of the Kwara State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Dental Association of Nigeria, Wale, has said the family has ruled out the possibility of police finding their member's killers and instead, are looking up to God to avenge the killing.
Wale, who described the deceased, who was from Oko, Irepodun Local Government, as a very helpful person, said the family members, including the wife of the deceased, were devastated by Ariyo's brutal death.
In an interview with journalists in Ilorin on Monday, he said that given past unresolved killings or assassinations in the country, it was not certain if the killers of the deceased would be fished out by
law enforcement agencies.
He said, "God will avenge the killing of our brother because we believe in God. Everybody knows what the country is now; the country is not secure. God is the great judge. He is there when it happened and he knows how to judge.
"We cannot ask anybody to investigate his killing because we know what happened to other cases of killings in the past. What was the outcome of the investigations? The Attorney-General of this country, Chief Bola Ige, was killed, and his killers have not been found."
Gunmen numbering about five had reportedly laid ambush near Ariyo's residence at Lower Niger Basin Area of Ilorin on Thursday night. He was shot to death in his residence after the gunmen had collected his car key and DVD. He was 44 years.
The Chairman, Kwara State Chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association, Prof. Olayinka Buari, said NMA was collaborating with the security agencies to apprehend Ariyo's killers.
