I read with interest the interview with Prof. Charles Ofoegbu in SUNDAY PUNCH of April 14. It shows that the simple solution to the persistent problem of fuel 'scarcity' can only abate when private refineries come into existence. Our government refineries don't work, have never really worked and, from all indications, never will. I believe that the subsidy on petroleum products will have to be removed eventually. The sooner this is done, the better. Whatever it takes to encourage private refineries to be established is what we must do. And I guess that it is the deregulation of that sector of our economy.
