The Transmission Company of Nigeria has completed the installation of two power transformers in Oyo and Niger states.
TCN said a new 60MVA was recently installed in its Ibadan North Transmission substation, while a 45MVA, 132/33kV power transformer was successfully installed in its Suleija substation.
This, the company said, was part of its efforts to strengthen the nation's transmission network to meet the electricity demand of its growing consumers.
TCN, in a statement signed by the Assistant General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr. Dave Ifabiyi, said the new 60MVA power transformer installed in Ibadan had increased the wheeling capacity of the substation from 60MVA to 120MVA.
"The increased capacity of the substation will improve power supply to the state, especially the University of Ibadan, International Institute of Tropical Agriculture complex, as well as the Ibadan North axis of Oyo State," he said.
Ifabiyi added that the new 45MVA power transformer installed in Suleija would increase the capacity of the substation from 37.5MVA to 82.5MVA.
"This means that the substation now has the capacity to wheel more power to consumers within Suleija town, Jere and Kafanchan in Kaduna State, as well as Abuja Steel Mills Limited and environs," he said.
The installation of the Suleija 45MVA power transformer, TCN said, was wholly carried out by its engineers.
The statement added that TCN was currently undertaking the installation of power transformers in various transmission substations nationwide.
It said two of such ongoing transformer installation projects at the Kankia substation, Kano State, and Akure substation, Ondo State, would be completed and energised soon.
