Stakeholders in the education sector have lauded Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, for his commitment towards the development of the sector.
The stakeholders, who rose from a two-day education summit in Port Harcourt, urged Amaechi not to relent in showing exemplary leadership in the area of sustainable development for the education sector.
Their position was indicated in a communiqué signed by the state Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Lawrence-Nemi, and issued shortly after the summit.
The summit called for the establishment of health clubs in schools, with Red Cross volunteers that would teach First Aid administration.
It expressed the need for collaboration between the education and health ministries for the provision of health facilities, periodic talks and vaccinations.
It stated, "The summit expressed its appreciation to Amaechi, and urged him to continue to provide exemplary leadership and commitment to sustainable development of the education sector.
"Curriculum implementation for the revised Basic Education Curriculum will be in phases as prescribed by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Commission."
