The only surviving son of late sage, Obafemi Awolowo, Evangelist Oluwole Awolowo has passed away after a brief illness today, Wednesday, March 27, 2013 in a London hospital.
Oluwole, 70, has been battling with ill health since he was involved in a ghastly motor accident seven years ago.
A statement by the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of Nigerian Tribune, Mr. Edward Dickson, said, "Chief Awolowo died 5.40pm Nigerian time at Wellington hospital, St Johnswood, London, following complications arising from a car crash that occurred on September 30, 2006.
He had been in and out of hospital, home and abroad, since he was involved in the ghastly accident seven years ago on the Lagos- Ibadan Expressway.
Despite his health challenges following the accident, Chief Awolowo devoted his life to the service of God and was deeply involved in evangelical activities."
Sources close to the family say that the late Awolowo had battled with diabetes and high blood pressure that also affected his eyesight.
He was survived by his aged mother, Chief H.I.D Awolowo, Wives and many children.
May his soul rest in peace. Amen.
