UACN Property Development Company Plc is set to begin work on its first shopping mall at the Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos State.
Named Festival Mall, the property will be located on 3.2 hectares of land and is expected to serve as shopping facility to residents of FESTAC Town, Mile 2, Crystal Estate, Anchorage Estate, Okota and Navy Town.
Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony on Friday, the Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Toyin Ayinde, and Chairman, Amuwo Odofin Local Government, Mr. Ayodele Adewale, said the development was a welcome idea as it would generate employment opportunities in the state.
The Managing Director, UPDC, Mr. Hakeem Ogunniran, said Festival Mall was conceived as a commercial and entertainment node in Amuwo Odofin area, adding that it would cater for the needs of both the middle and low income earners in the area.
He said, "It is our expectation that this complex, when completed, will transform the entire environment and create a destination point for residents of Amuwo Odofin and Lagos State at large.
"Festival Mall and the other complimentary facilities nearby will offer a complete and sustainable environment for work, hospitality, recreation and retail experience. The mall, which will be best in class, has already signed on Shoprite and Silverbird Cinemas as anchor tenants."
