Former Nigeria Olympic Committee Secretary-General Elias Gora has called for re-training of coaches in the country.
Gora, who lamented the standard of coaching in Nigeria, pleaded with sports authorities to introduced the coaches to modern training methods.
"There is no way a nation can succeed in any sport without the development of its coaches and coaching services,'' he told the News Agency of Nigeria.
"We have to train and produce knowledgeable coaches who can be given the right exposure to develop our athletes from the foundation to performance levels.
"We need knowledgeable coaches and sports scientists who can take our athletes to international, continental and regional competitions.
"In today's world of athletics, it's not just the job of a coach to train an athlete, the input of several other professions such as sports medicine and sports science are required."
