The Rector, Yaba College of Technology, Dr. Margaret Kudirat-Ladipo, has lamented the dearth of trained Technical and Vocational Education Training professionals, policy planners and employment sector analysts in member nations of the Economic Community for West Africa States.
She said this during the opening ceremony of a two-week workshop organised to improve the professional and pedagogical skills of technical education teachers, TVET curriculum developers and designers of TVET instructional materials from the ECOWAS sub-region in YABATECH.
It was sponsored by UNESCO Office in Nigeria and TVET Centre of YABATECH.
Ladipo said there was shortage of trained TVET professionals, policy planners and employment sector analysts in many of the countries that make up the ECOWAS region.
The rector called on leaders of the ECOWAS countries to fashion out viable TVET policy to drive the attainment and implementation of the principles of TVET in the sub-region.
She noted that the workshop would enable participants to achieve better understanding of training and labour demand, adding that it would also enable them to adequately respond to the realities of industrial needs of the subregion.
