C'River ACN alleges neglect by headquarters
Dec 31st 2012, 23:38

Cross River State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria on Monday said the party's national headquarter had neglected it.

Chairman of the party in Cross Rivers State, Mr. Hillard Eta, said this during a press conference on the activities of the party in 2012.

But the National Publicity Secretary of the ACN, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said it was not true, .

He said paucity of funds had made it impossible for the headquarters of the party to regularly service all its 36 state chapters.

“There are not enough resources to go round the 36 states regularly. We want to assist, but where is the money? Apart from the ACN, no other party has full presence in all the states,” he explained.

However, Eta said the party leadership had failed to pay attention to the numerous issues affecting the party in Cross River.

“We have put the national leadership on the scale and we have found them wanting. The state is completely cut off from the national. And I must say it has become so bad such that the ACN, which is the second largest party in Cross River, does not have a state secretariat,” he said.

The ACN state chairman said the attitude of the national leadership was affecting the mobilisation drive of the party in the state.

According to him, the state party filled 24 cases in the state election tribunal after the 2011 general elections, adding that the party was asked to pay extra N400, 000 for each of the cases.

“And as I speak, the state chapter has not received a Kobo from the national as assistance in spite of several visitations in this regard,” he said.

Eta also said there was need for the party leadership to sit down and take closer look at the party's constitution as it affects Nigerians.

National Youth Leader of the party, Mr. Miriki Ebikibina, however, said the leadership was not neglecting the state chapter but that there was serious bickering in the Cross River State chapter of the ACN.
