Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State on Thursday night honoured 20 natives of the state who have performed excellently in their chosen fields.

Among those who were honoured are the first and only female pilot to have come from the state, Capt. Blank Agbelusi of Ipoti-Ekiti, and Pa Olanode Olajide, who was the driver to the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Chief S.L. Akintola, who were premiers of the old Western Region.

The governor said that the Ekiti State Merit Award, which was the second to be organised by the administration, was for well-deserved natives of the state, who had, through their activities, lifted the good name of the state.

Other people who were honoured included Mr. Rotimi Babatunde, who won the 2012 Caine Prize for African Writing, former Deputy Governor of the old Ondo State, the late Chief Akin Omoboriowo and renowned economist, the late Prof. Sam Aluko.

The first military administrator of the state, Col. Inua Bawa (retd); the first Head of Service, Mr. J.A. Ibidunmoye; wife of the first civilian governor of the state, Angela Adebayo and Mr. Johnson Ologunde, the composer of the Ekiti State anthem, were also rewarded.
