5 killed in Maiduguri gun duel

MAIDUGURI—No fewer than five persons including four suspected terrorists and a security agent attached to the Joint Task Force were killed, yesterday, morning along Baga Road in Maiduguri, capital of Borno State, following a clash between security operatives and suspected members of the Boko Haram Islamic sect.

It was gathered that the suspected terrorists who were in a (Keke Napep) tricycle laid ambush against a Military Task Force, JTF out post in the area which led to deadly gun duel between them at about 7:30am.

Suspected terrorists had reportedly gone very violent in the past four days following the killing of  one of their Commander, Ibrahim Abdulkareem who was among those who ransom of N10 million was placed on his head by the Federal Government. JTF reortedly killed Ibrahim along with three of his lieutenants along the Damboa- Biu Road.

When conatcted on telephone, the JTF Spokesman, Leuitenant Colonel Sagir Musa, who had been  out of Maiduguri in the past four days, said that he just returned to Maiduguri pointing out that the information available to him was that some suspected Boko Haram members who were recently declared wanted with offer of bounties were trailed by men of the JTF and that the operation was still ongoing.

Sagir said that he would issue a statement as soon as the operations were over, on the development made so far.

However, another security source confirmed that there was a deadly encounter between some suspected terrorists who were in a tricycle and some JTF operatives, adding that the ''terrorists were  successfully repelled by the security agencies along Baga road, over which one of the JTF men lost his life.
