National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffiking in Persons and other Related Practices has called for the provision of qualitative education to children.
This, the agency said, would help check the incidence of human trafficking in the country.
Making the call in Benin, Edo State, on Monday, the NAPTIP Executive Director, Mrs. Beatrice Jedy-Agba, who was represented by the Director, Public Enlightenment Department, Abuja, Mrs. Ladun Aiyegbusi, urged all tiers of government to pursue the realisation of qualitative education in the country.
She said, “Government is urged to make qualitative education accessible to all children and to vigorously pursue the realisation of a democratic society with effective poverty alleviation schemes.”
Jedy-Agba, who singled out Edo as a ground for the recruitment of young females for sexual exploitation, said community dialogue must be encouraged to discourage the trend.
She said, “May I state that the responsibility of tackling this menace which is gradually eroding our communities is a collective one.”
