2012 goes down in history as a year when international designers turned kings! They turned the runways upside down with their designs. At most of the international fashion weeks that held in 2012, they not only fared well, they stood out. They also consolidated on their fortune and fame. Who are they?
John Galliano
Before starting his own line, he was head designer of French haute couture, Givenchy and Christian Dior. He created innovative designs with a historical reference, Galliano created six haute couture and ready to wear collections per year! In addition to that, he introduced a new mini-season range having his own name 'G Galliano'!
Alexander McQueen
Alexander McQueen is a big British fish in the ocean of fashion. This year, Sarah Burton who has been in charge since the former's demise, as usual, created couture pieces with extreme theatrical influence. His creations are not just innovative but also hold pure beauty, colour and are raw in the true meaning of the word.
Domenico Dolce and Stefano
Two heads are better than one, proven true by the two designers, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. The brilliant duo is known for making the "stars look like stars". These two fashion idols are adorned and crazed by the Hollywood stars— Madonna, Angelina Jolie, Monica Bellucci, Isabella Rossellini, Kylie Minogue, etc.
Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani
Valentino's creative cuts have made him very successful and it was no different this year. Valentino has dressed some of the world's most famous celebrities like Julia Roberts and Elizabeth Taylor.
Donatella Versace
Donatella Versace is the current chief designer and vice-president of the Versace group. She took over her late brother Gianni Versace's line and continued the legacy; she has been extremely successful in keeping her brand alive. Donatella introduced sexy yet elegant designs with bright colours, which were and still are a big hit in public.
Pierre Balmain
French fashion designer, Pierre Balmain, opened his haute couture house in 1945 after studying at Ecole des Beaux Arts and designing for Edward Molyneux and Lucien Lelong. In the same fashion league as Christian Dior and Cristobal Balenciaga, Balmain is revered for his elegant aesthetic toward design. His designs are known for opulence—such as embroidered gowns and ensembles—as well as their focus on cut and style. Celebrity beauties love his eye-catching looks—Zoe Saldana, Kristen Stewart, and Gwyneth Paltrow, to name a few.
Diane von Furstenberg
The Belgium-born Diane von Furstenberg is most famous for her now iconic wrap dress, which instantly became a fashion sensation when it debuted in 1972, turning her into a fashion legend. Even today, the wrap dress replicas are extraordinary—every designer, it seems, has his or her own version of this extremely versatile look. The Diane von Furstenberg label exudes a certain femininity, timelessness, and style—making her a hit with celebrities like Kate Beckinsale, Molly Sims, and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Prada
The Prada design house, led by the extremely creative and intellectual Miuccia Prada, is always ahead of the fashion curve. The clean, feminine lines of the ready-to-wear collection, launched in 1989, have an ageless charm and are designed with a woman’s curves and busy lifestyle in mind. Prada herself has called her designs a uniform for women.
