Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation, Chief Hope Uzodinma on Thursday said the Nigerian aviation sector should operate in line with international standards.
Uzodinma said this when the committee visited the International Air Cargoes in Ilorin as part of the committee's oversight function.
The lawmakers said He said the committee was saddened by frequent air crashes in the country.
He regretted the death of Kaduna State Governor Patrick Yakowa and former National Security Adviser Andrew Azazi and four others in Saturday's helicopter crash in Bayelsa State.
He added that efforts must be made to ensure safer air space in the country.
Uzodinma said, "We are sad as a committee. we are sad as Nigerians because of frequent air crashes. Of course nobody can control or stop accidents.
"But what we are trying to do is to ensure is that the regulatory and operating environment are very efficient and in order according to the international specification and standards?" Uzodinma said.
