The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Judiciary, Dr. Ali Ahmad, has identified community development and poverty alleviation as veritable strategies to addressing youth restiveness, improvement in security of lives and property and acceleration of national growth.
Ahmad, member representing Ilorin South and East Federal Constituency, spoke to journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday while inaugurating a N3m revolving loan scheme for youths in his constituency.
He stated that the scheme was to empower the youth and reduce unemploymen.
He said adding the scheme was inaugurated to coincide with the 50th birthday of his political mentor, Dr. Bukola Saraki.
Ahmad also disbursed unspecified amount of money as Christmas gifts to Christian clerics, 35 youths and 70 widows.
The lawmaker said the high unemployment rate in the country had made it imperative for all stakeholders to collaborate with the government's poverty alleviation strategies.
One of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Muideen Oseni, who spoke on behalf of others, commended Ahmad for the gesture.
