An Osun State Peoples Democratic Party chief, Rev Bunmi Jenyo, has dragged Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, before an Osogbo High Court over the planned demolition of former Governor Olagunoye Oyinlola's building in Igbonna area of Osogbo.
Jenyo, in a statement of claim, averred that the planned demolition of the fence for road construction had political undertone.
The PDP stalwart, who claimed that he is Oyinlola's tenant, said his right of occupancy had not been revoked, adding that notice of demolition was not served his landlord.
He said the residence was initially not marked for demolition, adding that a part of the building was later marked for demolition for political reasons.
A visit to the area by our correspondent on Sunday, however, showed that several residences, banks, malls, shops and even a mosque were affected by the reconstruction exercise.
The road reconstruction project, spans the auto spare parts market in Osun State, Ajegunle market, runs through Ayetoro, Osogbo Township Stadium road, Ikirun, Inisha to Kwara State boundary.
Jenyo prayed for an order of perpetual injunction restraining Aregbesola, Osun State Attorney General and the construction firm, Sammya Nigeria Limited, from further entering and or carrying out any measurement or marking for demolition at 3A, Obafemi Awolowo Way, Osogbo, where the buildings were located.
In an ex parte motion, the High Court headed by Justice A Aderibigbe, granted leave to the claimant to serve the three defendants writs of summons and other originating processes.
Osun State, under Aregbesola, has embarked on reconstructions of roads, schools, markets and drainages. But some residents faulted the manner the government went about demolishing buildings in the process.
