No fewer than nine persons lost their lives in an auto crash, which occurred along Gbongan-Ife road, Osun State, on Thursday.

Eyewitness said the accident occurred in front of Gbongan High School when a commercial bus collided with a diesel tanker.

It was gathered that 11 persons sustained injuries in the crash, which left rescue workers and sympathisers battling to save the lives of the victims.

The white commercial bus involved in the accident bore XA 478 MAP number-plate while the diesel truck bore XA 585 ALK number-plate.

A passer-by said the accident was caused by over speeding, adding that many of the victims had their bodies mangled.

When contacted, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, in the state, Mr. Imoh Etuk, said preliminary investigation showed that the accident was caused by recklessness.

He said, “People involved in the accident are 20. They are 12 females, five males, one male child and two female children. The people who died are nine, and they include six female adults, two male adults and a child.”
