Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, on Monday hailed the Board of Directors, management and members of staff of Punch Nigeria Limited for winning the Newspaper of The Year Award at the prestigious Diamond Award For Media Excellence held on Friday.

He said the Abiye (Safe motherhood) programme had been able to expose the writing prowess of Ogunseye, just as it had also established the capability of the state to curb maternal deaths.
He said the award had further confirmed the programme which had been described as a benchmark for the African continent by the World Bank as worthy of emulation by governments at every level in the country.
He also congratulated the Editor, The Punch, Mr. Adeyeye Joseph, who won in the Editor of the year category and Mr. Saheed Olugbon, who won in the Action Photography category.
The governor described the awards as "a well deserved honour considering the mature and professional manner with which stories in the publications on the stable are processed and disseminated."
