The Lagos State House of Assembly has accused the Chief Executive Officer of the state Metropolitan Development Governance Project of being uncooperative with the Assembly's effort to ensure accountability in the state budget.
The lawmakers insisted at its plenary that the refusal of the CEO to appear before the House Committee on Finance was an attempt to prevent it from doing its work.
A statement from the Assembly on Monday said LMDGP became the subject of a debate after the Chairman of the Finance Committee, Mrs. Adefunmilayo Tejuosho, formally lodged a complaint against the agency and its leadership to the House.
Tejuosho said, "The committee has made several attempts to invite the Management of the LMDGP to appear before it on the budget review for the year. The agency has refused to honour our invitations despite several calls and letters."
The Chairman, House Committee on Works, Mr. Rotimi Oluwo, who backed Tesuosho's claim, explained that his committee had also invited the agency to appear before it but to no avail.
The Assembly thereafter unanimously resolved that the agency CEO should appear before the House on Thursday to explain its refusal to honour the invitation of the Assembly's committees.
In another development, the bill for the registration of land titles and consolidation of existing laws had passed through the second reading.
The Chairman, House Committee on Lands and Housing, Mr. Bayo Osinowo, said the bill would compel all land owners to register and regularise their land titles to avoid re-allocation.
He added that the bill would checkmate the excesses of land speculators, popularly known as Omo Onile. The bill would also help in making transaction on the sales of land in the state stress-free.
