The wife of the Senate President David Mark, Mrs. Onma Helen Mark, has urged the youths to take their destinies into their hands if they desire to make a difference for themselves in life
Mrs. Mark was saying this at the Mark D Ball tournament held at the Otukpo Club 1945 on Wednesday.
Mrs. Mark while declaring the tournament open stated that what the youths have before them in the Mark D Ball competition, should be taken as a lifetime opportunity which they must take with both hands.
While commending the efforts of the organisers for the event, which started as a pet project to help resuscitate basketball, she said it gladdened her heart that the game attracted players, both active and retired, from America and Europe.
She said, “I'm glad that this event has grown in leaps and bounds. It also gladdens my heart that I'm witnessing the birth of a new academy for the kids where players would be nurtured and groomed to become stars of tomorrow. I'm confident that this academy will give the kids an opportunity to learn the basics of the game and later grow into star players that will represent Nigeria.”
She said the calibre of stars that turned out for the event gave her confidence that the pupils were in good hands. She praised the initiative of Igoche Mark, who in his days, played for the Dodan Warriors Basketball of Lagos.
