The Cross River State Government has lamented the inability of the Federal Government to dredge the Calabar Sea Port despite several pledges.
It said in view of the importance of the port to the state's economy, there was the need for the private sector to intervene and dredge the port.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Investment Promotion, Mr. Gerald Ada, said this during the first Public Private Engagement Mechanism Workshop of Empowerment States held in Calabar on Thursday.
Apart from other years, the FG had at different times in April and October 2012 said arrangement had been concluded to dredge the port.
However, Ada regretted that efforts to get the FG to dredge the port had not yielded any positive result.
He described as critical the government's collaboration with the organisation, which is aimed at ensuring economic growth, employment generation and marketing of the potential of the state with a view to attracting foreign investors.
He stated that though the bureau had recorded a considerable level of success in its activities in the last two years, the organisation's intervention in the investment promotion sector would assist it to build the right institutional structure and fashion ways of improving the major investment indices.
