Alhaji Mukhtar Yero Sworn In As New Governor Of Kaduna State,Nigeria

Nigerian News — Alhaji Mukhtar Yero was, on Sunday 16, December 2012 sworn in as the new governor of Kaduna State by the state Chief Judge, Justice Rahila Cudjo.

The ceremony, conducted at Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna, was witnessed by members of the state executive council, government officials and traditional rulers.

Yero replaced Governor Patrick Yakowa, who died in a helicopter crash in Bayelsa State, on Saturday.

In his acceptance speech, the governor pledged to continue with the transformation agenda laid by his predecessor.

"I sincerely desire to build on the good foundation that my boss had laid," he said, adding that he would secure, unite and develop the state.

He paid tribute to the late Yakowa for his outstanding contributions to the development of the state and humanity.

"He invested so much on this and had started reaping the fruits of his labour.

"His wish was to consolidate and advance on the achievements so far made and hence, tagged Kaduna 2013 budget as Budget of Consolidation and Advancement," he said.

The new governor commiserated with the family of the deceased and people of the state over the loss of "a humble and dedicated person."

Yero said the occasion called for sober reflection, adding that it was time to mourn "a good man and to adopt strategies to ensure continuation of his legacies."

ALHAJI MUKHTAR YERO'S PROFILE
Born on May 21, 1968 in Agwan Kaura in Zaria, Kaduna State, Alhaji Yero had his early education at LEA Primary School, Kaura (1974-1980); Government Secondary School, Ikara (1980-1985); Government Secondary School, Zaria, (1985-1986), before obtaining a diploma in Banking from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.

He also obtained B.Sc Accounting in 1991, before capping it with Masters in Business Administration.

Yero, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) started his working experience as assistant accountant during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at Ogun State Purchasing Corporation between 1991 and 1992.

After the service year, he was employed as Higher Executive Officer Bursary Department at ABU, Zaria in 1993, before moving to Nigerian Universal Bank Limited as Accountant Supervisor the same year.

It was in 1997 that he got appointment in a private firm, Nalado Nigerian Limited as Chief Accountant and rose in ranks to become Director, Finance and Administration in 2007.

After the election of Alhaji Namadi Sambo in 2007, the state government appointed him as the Commissioner for Finance from 2007 till May 2010.

In May 2010, Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa named him as the deputy governor.

In December 2012, he became the Kaduna State governor, following the death of Governor Yakowa in a chopper crash in Bayelsa State.
The new governor is married and blessed with six children.-Tribune
