ABUJA—FORMER governorship aspirant on the platform of Peoples' Democratic Party, PDP, in Adamawa State, Dr. Umar Ardo, yesterday, described the November 22 local government election in the state as the most absurd in the nation's political history.
He added that unelected local government chairmen were sworn into office.
Ardo said the swearing in for the council chairmen was illegal and unconstitutional on the grounds that the winners or losers in the election were never announced before inauguration.
He told newsmen in Abuja, yesterday: "One of the most serious absurdities that I have never seen in politics in Nigeria, happened in Adamawa State.
"The law says candidates or political parties that are not satisfied with outcome of any election should go to the tribunal. The electoral law in Adamawa State gave 14 days after declaration of result.
"In Adamawa there was not even a formal declaration of results by the State Independent Electoral Commission, SIEC, when Governor Murtala Nyako swore-in the chairmen?"
