The Federal Road Safety Corps on Thursday in Abeokuta said more accidents were recorded in the nation's motorable roads than in the bad ones.
The FRSC Zonal Commander in charge of Lagos and Ogun states, Mr. Ademola Lawal, stated this at a stakeholders' meeting in Abeokuta.
According to Lawal, drivers in their attempts to make up for lost time on bad roads, overspeed and become reckless whenever they return to more motorable roads.
Such attitude, he said, exposed them to the dangers of road crashes and other mishaps.
He said, "Accidents occur more on good roads than bad ones due to over speeding. Drivers usually engage in over speeding to make for the lost time they spent in bad roads.
"People are not used to good roads and so they take the advantage to the extreme. So we have to continue to educate road users on the need to be cautious while on good roads."
He noted that the corps programme of action included constant education for road users in the Yuletide and beyond.
Lawal added that a programme entitled 'Beyond the Road' was designed to ascertain the health of commercial drivers before they embark on any journey.
He noted that health centres would be provided in motorparks across the country to enable the corps to carry out compulsory blood pressure and eye checks on drivers to ensure that they were fit for driving.
He added, "We are also going to use some agents that will be in commercial buses to caution drivers when they are over speeding and when they refuse they shall be handed over to next available FRSC team.
"These health centres will be established in all the parks, because I have never seen a driver using recommended eye glasses, does it mean they all have good sights?"
