After three days of exposure to modern athletics coaching techniques, Nigerian coaches have been challenged to work hard and produce medal potentials for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Athletics Federation of Nigeria president, Solomon Ogba made the charge during the week while speaking at the Athletics coaches forum/clinic organised by the technical committee of the AFN, towards preparations for the Rio 2016 Olympics. Over 60 coaches attended the event which featured Nigeria-born United Kingdom Athletics coach, Michel Afilaka.
"Our coaches must deliver now that we are exposing them to modern coaching techniques. Before now, most of our coaches lacked the technical know how. This is why the federation took upon itself to organise clinics.
This is the third in the series and besides that, we are encouraging our former athletes and others who are interested to pick IAAF certification. Good enough we have eight of our coaches who have moved to level three and we are encouraging them to move to the next level," said Ogba.
Coach Afilaka, in his submission urged Nigerian coaches to come together and face the problems confronting them as a united force.
"Nigerian coaches must come together and make things work. There is no use complaining about a bad system, now it is time to work with the system or work without the system."
