TICKER: "I was giving him a nose job" – Woman who shot boyfriend in the face
Oct 31st 2012, 18:00

The Kentucky woman who shot her boyfriend in the head and face multiple times said she was giving him "the nose job that he wanted," detectives said.

Investigators revealed a string of gruesome new details at a preliminary hearing Thursday for Shayna Hubers, 21, the Eastern Kentucky University student charged with murder in the slaying of on again-off again boyfriend Ryan Poston, 29.

"She said she couldn't stand to see him deformed [after shooting him in the face]. She said he was vain," Highland Heights Detective Bill Birkenhauer said in a chilling testimony before the Campbell County District Court.

"She said she gave him the nose job that he wanted," he testified.

On that night earlier in October, Hubers shot Poston—a lawyer who had only just started his own practice—multiple times in the head and face before firing four more times to stop him from twitching, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. The shootings took place across a kitchen table, Birkenhauer said, who also testified that Hubers claimed her boyfriend became verbally abusive and that the gun she used was sitting on a kitchen table.

But her story has been inconsistent, he said.

"She made numerous statements," he said. "She said the gun was in his hand at one time. She said the gun was in the cabinet."

The young woman's lawyer, Wil Zevely, argued that Hubers—who occasionally looked to her parents during the hearing—acted in self defense.

He said the student's parents are pining for her return to life with them.

"They'd do anything they could to get her home," Zevely told reporters after the hearing. "It really doesn't make a difference if it's a million or a billion (dollars)."

But Judge Karen Thomas has revoked Hubers' bond out of fear for local safety.

Thomas sent the case to a grand jury, according to the Enquirer.
