ABEOKUTA – Former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s faction in the Ogun state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Friday, caused a stir when it took over the party Secretariat in Abeokuta, in a commando-like manner.
The controversial Secretariat located along IBB Boulevard at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta was built by the ex- governor Gbenga Daniel’s administration.
Obasanjo’s faction which has been operating in the office of the party national auditor, Senator Bode Mustafa, had few weeks ago hinted the Inspector General of police, Mohammed Abubakar on its plan to take over the secretariat.
It will be recalled that,the crisis which led to the fight over the Secretariat began shortly after 2011 general election .
Vanguard learnt that,another faction opposing the leadership of Obasanjo, led by Dayo Soremi had been in possession of the party secretariat. It was further gathered that, the Obasanjo’s faction forcefully gained entry into the place and held a meeting.
Speaking after the forceful takeover,the party secretary of Obasanjo’s faction, Dapo Adeyemi threatened aggrieved members of the party with sanctions, if they fail to join his group.
The secretary said "what we are doing today is to avoid bloodshed as much as possible, apart from the high-powered reconciliation committee of the party, the NWC has also give a 30 days ultimatum to all the aggrieved members, if they are not aware of our committee, they should be aware of the directive of the NWC.”
