Ubah visits NLC, promises living wage
Sep 10th 2013, 23:00, by online@ngrguardiannews.com (From Chuks Collins, Awka)

Ifeanyi-Uba3GOVERNORSHIP candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the November 16 Anambra State guber polls, Mr. Ifeanyi Ubah, has promised attention to everything that would promote industrial harmony and peace in the state if elected into office.

Speaking at the state headquarters of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) during a courtesy call Tuesday, Ubah promised to pay the workers a living wage far above the popular minimum wage.

He said he was at the NLC office to formally present his campaign manifesto to the labour chiefs, who he described as part of his campaign movement, and to also invite them to his official flag-off tomorrow in Onitsha.

Ubah lamented the "ramshackle" place the NLC uses as state headquarters, claiming that it shows the level of disdain the outgoing administration in the state has for its workers. Due to this, he said he needed not ask whether workers were being carried along or properly taken care of because their submissions have said enough.

The LP standard bearer emphasized that his campaign has pleasant working relationship with all stakeholders participating in the governorship election, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the police and the electorate, which comprises workers, the business class and every citizen of the state.

However, he acknowledged having some issues with the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), especially in the way it handled the issue of council election in the state. He accused the commission of inconsistency, which he said does not augur well for the polity.

According to him, the LP is prepared for the council election, but since it has now been postponed, it would avail him time to concentrate on the guber election.

On his relationship with other candidates, Ubah said it has remained cordial, just as he appealed to them to remain level headed.

He urged citizens to assess each candidate's antecedents, employment records/ratings and other such indices to critically assess their suitability for the high office. He further suggested a round table debate for the guber candidates as another avenue for the electorates to assess them ahead of the election.
