Assaulted referee Durunna for further treatment

KWARA UTD/WARRI WOLVES' BOTCHED TIE

Referee Durunna CIB from Abia State, who was beaten up allegedly by fans of Kwara United, has been discharged from a hospital in Ilorin, but will need further treatment, a source has informed SportingLife.

Durunna, who sustained head and body injuries from the assault, was the Assistant Referee 2 during the the Afonja Warriors’ Matchday 29 tie against Warri Wolves.

SportingLife's sources said the referee incurred the anger of Kwara United fans because they felt he he aided the club’s loss to Nasarawa United in Lafia.

Nigeria's Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi and Secretary, Club Owners' Association, Alloy Chukwuemeka were in attendance at the Kwara State Stadium when the incident occurred.

SportingLife gathered that it took the intervention of Chukwuemeka before Durunna, who was already weakened by the beating, was taken to the hospital in Ilorin.

It was also reliably scooped that the referee will stay on the sideline for some time before being fully fit to handle league games again.

The game was goalless before being called off at halftime.
