The US on Sunday condemned last week's attack and killing of a peacekeeper and injury of two others during an assault on a UN-AU Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur.
A statement release by the U.S. Embassy in Khartoum, received by PANA on Sunday, said the U.S. condemned in the strongest terms the attack on April 19 on the Muhajariya team Site of the UN-AU Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) which resulted in the death of one peacekeeper and the injury to two others.
"We call on the Government of Sudan and the Darfur Regional Authority to conduct promptly full and credible investigations into all attacks against UNAMID, and to hold the perpetrators accountable,'' the release said.
It added that the U.S. was also gravely concerned about the reports of civilian casualties and deliberate targeting of civilians by militias in Muhajariya and Labado, and called on all parties to the conflict to abide by international humanitarian law.
"We note with alarm recent statements by the UN Secretary-General, the UNAMID Joint Special Representative and the UN Resident Humanitarian Coordinator, that the Government of Sudan has prevented humanitarian assistance from reaching large numbers of internally displaced persons seeking protection at the UNAMID Team Sites in Muhajariya
