BEAUTY, CELEBRITIES, FAB OR DRAB, MODELS BEAUTY GONE WRONG? SUPERMODEL TYRA BANKS FACE IS "CHARCOAL" FIERCE! WHAT'S YOUR VERDICT?
Jan 1st 2013, 01:36

Did Supermodel  Tyra Banks attended the annual Moth Ball in New York City  (May 8, 2012) without looking in the mirror? Or can we blame it on the "Glam Squad" for this horrendous makeup job? First of all, we don't do a lot of beauty post on BIAF. Why? Not that we don't care but beauty is very subjective and in most instances it lies in the eyes of the beholder. For us it has to catch our eye and this "Charcoal" look on Tyra certainly caught our well train eyes.
Did she go for the Vampire look we saw on many stars at the Met Ball? Or was the former talk show host storytelling and sticking to tradition at one of New York City most prestigious society events for Storytellers? All in all, beauty went wrong here.
She look ghoulish instead of looking her usual self. And those rose gold tassel earrings didn't add value to her charcoal face and bronze gown.
Evidence that she wasn't feeling herself came last night when she tweeted, "Another @themoth pic Even tho I don't model anymore, I can't seem2pose normal. I'm struck w/fierce posing syndrome."
Please Tyra, don't try and  pull these deliberate stunts on us. We love your pretty face "Charcoal" free.
Team EBV what's your verdict?

“Banky W tells a beautiful love story” – A review of the video for Yes/No

"Banky W tells a beautiful love story" – A review of the video for Yes/No
Jan 1st 2013, 01:33

The much talked about Banky W's 'Yes/No' video has finally been released.
The 5minutes video of the Yes/No lead single from Banky W's #R&BW album tells a beautiful love story.
It interestingly tells the story of a couple who fell in love in secondary school, met again after so many years, encountered some challenges but despite all odds, managed to come together in the end.
There were no dull moments in the video even though there were scenes that weren't exactly relevant.
One of the most interesting scenes in the video was the last scene where Banky W (the lover in question) went to propose with a note containing a "Will you marry me Yes /yes (A 'struck out" No) option.
The dance moves by Banky W and his back-up dancers were good enough to keep the viewers glued to the very end, but the Kukere dance style was the most outstanding of the moves. It would have been nicer if more minutes were spent on the kukere dance.

NAF joins in war against oil theft

NAF joins in war against oil theft
Dec 31st 2012, 23:34

Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, says the force has joined the Navy and other security agencies in the war to eradicate oil theft in the country.

Badeh told our correspondent after assessing the NAF's formations, including its mobility command in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Monday, that the decision was in line with the mandate he received from President Goodluck Jonathan.

The President, he said, while decorating him and others as service chiefs had tasked them with national security and oil theft, especially in the Niger Delta.

He said the force would acquire maritime patrol aircraft to collaborate with the Navy in fishing out oil thieves.

He said, “In no distant future, we are going to have our own real maritime patrol aircraft fully operational and in collaboration with the Navy. We will be able to give them a nosebleed.”

On national security, he said the major challenge to security agencies was to be proactive instead of reactionary in their approach to terrorism and other related cases.

He vowed to transform the air force through innovative technology, lamenting that the force's manpower had been allowed to waste for too long.

He said, “My vision for the air force is to make it to be a self-reliant, fighting force through the use of innovative technology. We have a very large pool of manpower; very educated manpower and we have not been able to harness them to do for us what we intended.

“I have put the manpower together and l have given them a charge. When it materialises even the nation will realise that we have achieved something.”

He, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the force's formation in the state, saying it has been having problems of accommodation and offices.

There’s inherent injustice in PIB –Yobe ex-gov

There's inherent injustice in PIB –Yobe ex-gov
Dec 31st 2012, 23:37

Senator Bukar Abba-Ibrahim, on Monday in Abuja, said the inherent injustice in the Petroleum Industry Bill as presented by the Executive had made it impossible for the document to enjoy national support.

While expressing optimism that the PIB would be one of the critical bills to be passed by the Senate in 2013, the former governor of Yobe State said it would not be passed in its current form.

The Senator also said he had no regrets for proposing dialogue as the best option in dealing with the Boko Haram insurgency.

Abba-Ibrahim said, “On the issue of the Petroleum Industry Bill, the powers of the Minister must be reduced.

“We don't want anybody to talk about additional funds for the so called oil producing communities. I think at this stage, it is unacceptable. Let the money go into the treasury so that every Nigeria benefits from it.

“In what ever form it is going to be passed, I hope it is going to tackle the corruption in the petroleum industry – the most corrupt industry in Nigeria and probably the most corrupt institution in the whole world as of today. We must stop this corruption, we can't just keep talking about it.”

He explained that the criminal neglect of the North East, which was largely responsible for the current state of insecurity, could be addressed through justice and fairness.

Abba-Ibrahim commended ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo for doing for the zone what no other leader right from Tafawa Balewa had done.

Abba-Ibrahim expressed surprise at attacks on his person by the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor.

The Christian leader had described the legislator's comments on the Boko Haram insurgency as “reckless and irresponsible.”

Abba-Ibrahim said, “I am surprised that this man of God is opposed to us having a dialogue, he will prefer us killing one another.

“Maybe he has not been hit. I have been personally hit, my family members have been killed, my cars have been burnt, my wife's school has been burnt in Damaturu. I have been a direct victim of Boko Haram and the insurgency.

“Dialogue is not the only solution but it remains the best solution.”

On the way forward, he said, “Boko Haram are faceless agreed, but that does not mean there is no way because if there is a will, there will certainly be a way.”

Meanwhile, former Senate Leader, Teslim Folarin, on Monday advised that the Federal Government should not hesitate to dialogue with the Boko-Haram sect if the members come out in the open and make their demands known to Nigerians.

Folarin gave the advice while reacting to questions from journalists shortly after the eighth day Fidau of his late kinsman, Suleiman Emiola in Ibadan.

The former Senate Leader expressed concern over the menace of the terrorists group, adding that nobody could have thought of terrorism in Nigeria in the last 20 years.

Tension in Enugu as Chime fails to return
Dec 31st 2012, 23:30

There was anxiety in Enugu State on Monday as the lingering absence of Governor Sullivan Chime entered the New Year with his whereabouts still shrouded in secrecy.

Chime had handed over power to his deputy  Sunday Onyebuchi before leaving the country on September 19 for a six-week vacation in the United States.

One hundred and three days later, the governor has not returned to the state and the state government has maintained silence over his whereabouts.

However, it is reported that the governor is being hospitalised in India.

The PUNCH recalls that on December 15, the day that Kaduna State Governor, Patrick Yakowa and Gen. Andrew Azazi, died in a helicopter crash alongside four other persons, there were rumours that Chime had died in an Indian hospital.

However, the state government debunked the claim.

Last weekend, there were reports that the governor would return to the state on December 31, but as at 4pm on Monday,  journalists, who converged on the Akanu Ibiam Airport, Enugu left when the last flight for the day landed without the governor on board.

When our correspondent visited the Government House, Enugu, the place looked deserted, except for the office of Chief of Staff, Mrs. Ifeoma Nwobodo, who is seen as the de facto governor of the state.

However, there was a  notice at the manifest inviting all political appointees and elected office-holders for a meeting at the governor's Udi hometown by 8pm.

Contrary to initial feelers that the meeting was summoned to discuss latest developments in the state, a source, who pleaded anonymity, said it was the usual New Year vigil and nothing more.

He said, "If you have been conversant with events here, you will know that the governor usually invites appointees and elective office-holders to keep New Year vigil with him in his house since he became governor in 2007.

"The notice of meeting you saw is in line with this tradition. There is nothing special about it."

Oyo assures South-South traders of protection
Dec 31st 2012, 23:42

Oyo State Government on Monday assured traders from the South-South geo-political zone, resident in the state, of adequate protection.

The traders had raised the alarm over the activities of people they described as “bad elements” parading themselves as government agents.

The 'agents' were said to be extorting the unsuspecting traders with a threat to seal off their shops if they failed to pay some fees.

The traders raised the alarm on Sunday in a statement by the President, South-South indigenes in Oyo State, Michael Obasohon.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Habitat, Chief 'Lowo Obisesan, in a statement on Monday, stated that actions were being taken to address the situation.

The statement read, “The Oyo State Government has once again re-assured traders in the state, most especially the South-South traders who cried out over extortion of their members by some people parading themselves as agent of government, of adequate care and provision of modern market.”

It stated that all affected traders would be given priority in the ongoing arrangement to relocate and resettle them.

The statement further read, “Our South-South traders are no longer strangers in Ibadan, but sons and daughters of Ibadan and would be so treated.”

Jonathan's ministers
Jan 1st 2013, 00:44

Adebanjo S.A., Ogun State Housing Estate, Itanrin Sabo, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, +23480592591: Information from the grapevine is rife that President Goodluck Jonathan may remove non-performing ministers early this month. Could it be that the President is transferring aggression unto the ministers for being so criticised for non-performance? Could it be that such ministers are incapable of acting the President's scripts on good governance? If the President ultimately executes his removal plan and Nigerians still have to contend with 'government of non-performance', do we now look unto the National Assembly for action? If hope is dashed, we may have to wait till 2015 to hold our destinies in our hands. Conversely, however, if the ministers' removal is the panacea for good governance, post 2012 is laden with good tidings.

2014 posters spark row between ACN, Fayose

2014 posters spark row between ACN, Fayose
Dec 31st 2012, 23:26

Posters for the 2014 governorship poll bearing the names and pictures of former Governor Ayo Fayose and a member of House of Representatives, Mr. Opeyemi Bamidele, purportedly seeking to contest the election on the platform of the Labour Party have created fresh crisis between the Action Congress of Nigeria and the former governor.

Although Fayose had in 2011 contested the Senate seat on the platform of the LP, he had since returned to the PDP. Bamidele is still a member of the ruling ACN in the state.

But the Ayo Fayose Campaign Organisation in a statement on Monday by its Director of Publicity and Research, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, accused the ACN of being behind the posters.

In a response to the allegation, the Director of Publicity of the ACN, Chief Tai Oguntayo, said those embarrassing Fayose were within the PDP.

The ACN spokesperson warned Fayose against attacking the ACN based on his embarrassment which he said was predicted by his (Fayose) enemies within the PDP.

The statement read in part, “Two days before Opeyemi Bamidele's poster surfaced in major towns across the state. Campaign posters of Mr. Ayodele Fayose, purporting that he wanted to contest on the banner of Labour Party littered the whole state. This, to us, is an act of cowardice, as the posters were pasted in the night.”

Oguntayo had earlier accused the opposition in the state of being behind the pasting of Bamidele's posters purportedly seeking to contest the governorship poll on the platform of the LP in 2014.

The ACN spokesperson said, “Bunmi Ojo, a former personal assistant of Mr. Segun Oni, recently came out openly on the Facebook and he issued a statement to say that Fayose would be thoroughly embarrassed.”

Our father left unfinished business – Azazi's children
Dec 31st 2012, 23:32

Akpo-Olade and Pelede, the first daughter and the last son of the late Gen. Andrew Azazi, said the former National Security Adviser left behind unfinished business.

The traumatised children in their tributes at the burial of their father, named the Yenagoa City Centre project as top on the list of the unfinished business.

Akpo-Olade in her tribute on Saturday, said her father was passionate about developing the city centre, adding that he spent much time designing the project.

She also said her father dreamt of establishing a factory that would produce special fruit juice in the country.

Her father's visions and dreams for better Nigeria and Bayelsa State, including the city centre project, she said, were the first things she remembered when she received the report of the December 15 helicopter crash in which Azazi and five others were killed.

Akpo-Olade, who gave the late Azazi his first grand child, said she never believed that her father was on board the ill-fated helicopter until her brother confirmed the report to her.

She, however, regretted being outside the country when the incident happened.

She said, “I remember the day my sister called me, I was out of the country. She called me to say that there was an helicopter crash and that there was a possibility that our father was in the helicopter.

“I screamed and said it can't be possible. I remembered all his dreams and visions and l said to God, this can't be possible. What is going to happen to all the things he believed in and fought for.

“I remember the Yenagoa City Centre, something that he derived joy from when he talked. He presented this to so many people; they were excited about it. I say God for his dreams, please don't let it be.

“But I had to accept the reality when my brother told me that he was dead. At this point I said God why did I have to be away when this thing happened.”

Similarly, Pelede said his father was planning to establish a foundation before the unfortunate incident.

He said, “I was together with my father all the day before this thing happened. We talked about different things ranging from values and foundation and how to better peoples lives.

“My father was a very good person. He touched a lot of lives from both officers of the Nigerian Army and civilians. He was a man of virtue.”

Ekiti revokes beautification contracts
Dec 31st 2012, 23:34

Ekiti State Urban Renewal Agency has terminated the beautification contracts awarded to two contractors in the state.

The Chairman of the agency, Mr. Babatunde Fakoyede, stated this while inspecting the projects.

According to a statement by the agency's Press Officer, Mrs. Omolara Alokan, the projects affected were the one on the Ojumose to Okesa Junction, being handled by Aditeuro Solution Nigeria Ltd and the Ado Ekiti to Ikere Ekiti project being handled by BeeDeeKay Consult.

Although the statement was silent on the reasons for the revocation, the chairman urged contractors handling other projects in Ado Ekiti to endeavour to meet the deadline for the completion of the projects.

Expressing displeasure at the pace of work on the projects, Fakoyede noted that it was unacceptable for contractors that had been mobilised to continue to be nonchalant in executing the jobs.

He commended the contractor handling the fencing of the Christ's School for doing a good job, but urged him to complete the work on time.

Fakoyede said 120 open shops were built at Agric Olope to accommodate traders displaced at the Bisi Egbeyemi Market while 140 lockup shops were also provided for other traders.

C'River ACN alleges neglect by headquarters
Dec 31st 2012, 23:38

Cross River State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria on Monday said the party's national headquarter had neglected it.

Chairman of the party in Cross Rivers State, Mr. Hillard Eta, said this during a press conference on the activities of the party in 2012.

But the National Publicity Secretary of the ACN, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said it was not true, .

He said paucity of funds had made it impossible for the headquarters of the party to regularly service all its 36 state chapters.

“There are not enough resources to go round the 36 states regularly. We want to assist, but where is the money? Apart from the ACN, no other party has full presence in all the states,” he explained.

However, Eta said the party leadership had failed to pay attention to the numerous issues affecting the party in Cross River.

“We have put the national leadership on the scale and we have found them wanting. The state is completely cut off from the national. And I must say it has become so bad such that the ACN, which is the second largest party in Cross River, does not have a state secretariat,” he said.

The ACN state chairman said the attitude of the national leadership was affecting the mobilisation drive of the party in the state.

According to him, the state party filled 24 cases in the state election tribunal after the 2011 general elections, adding that the party was asked to pay extra N400, 000 for each of the cases.

“And as I speak, the state chapter has not received a Kobo from the national as assistance in spite of several visitations in this regard,” he said.

Eta also said there was need for the party leadership to sit down and take closer look at the party's constitution as it affects Nigerians.

National Youth Leader of the party, Mr. Miriki Ebikibina, however, said the leadership was not neglecting the state chapter but that there was serious bickering in the Cross River State chapter of the ACN.

Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Mr. Yomi Awoniyi, who was on a 12-day Christmas holiday to London, had returned to the state.

Awoniyi's Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Abu Michael, on Monday said Awoniyi returned on Sunday after spending nine days in London.

The deputy governor was said to have visited the injured Wada at the Cedecrest Hospital, Abuja on Sunday.

Awoniyi said Wada was responding to treatment and had been in high spirit after undergoing a surgery on his thigh at the hospital.

The deputy governor appealed to Kogi State residents to be calm, adding that the transformation agenda of Wada's administration was on course.

Meanwhile, Awoniyi in his New Year message, said the state would witness a new dawn in infrastructure development in 2013 under Wada's administration.

Awoniyi thanked the people of the state for their support for Wada's administration, and urged the people to live in peace with one another.
