Youths in Ado Ekiti on Sunday took to the streets to protest against the opening of Oja Oba Market despite the death of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Funmi Olayinka.
The youth were said to be angry that the market opened despite the death of Olayinka, whose family house is about 70 meters to the market.
Our correspondent gathered that the youths made bonfire on the street but the quick intervention of policemen brought the situation under control.
Our correspondent, who visited the scene, observed that the two lanes in front of the deputy governor's family house were closed.
Two police patrol vehicles were also seen around the area.
But the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State, Mr. Victor Babayemi, told our correspondent on the telephone that there was no protest in the area.
Babayemi stated that the youth only embarked on a "mourning procession" to mourn the deputy governor, who was an indigene of Ado Ekiti.
He said the Police commissioner, Mr. Sotonye Wakama, ordered his men to the scene as preemptive measure targeted at preventing trouble makers from taking advantage of the mourning period to foment trouble.
