The Anglican Diocesan Bishop of Lagos, Adebola Ademowo, has called on the Federal Government to take decisive actions to stop the killing of people by insurgents in the country.

Speaking at a press conference to announce the church's upcoming Synod in Lagos on Friday, the cleric urged the Federal Government to do more to improve the security situation in the country.

Making reference to Boko Haram, an insurgent group that has claimed responsibility for the killing of thousands of people, Ademowo said "these killings must stop."

"It's not a matter of 'we are on top of it;' government needs to do something now. They must take a decisive action now, not even tomorrow. Government should not just sit there; they should do something and assist us," he added.

Ademowo noted that the handling of the recent bombings in Boston by the US government exposed the "lackadaisical" attitude of the Nigerian government in the handling of its security crisis.

Reacting to the recent setting up of an amnesty committee by President Goodluck Jonathan, Ademowo said the programme should be preceded by talks between the government and the group.

"It's good to have a dialogue with them and know why they are doing what they are doing. They should get those people who can get in contact with them and they should also help and compensate the people who have suffered in their hands," he said.

Ademowo debunked insinuations that religious leaders and traditional rulers were doing little to assist government in curbing security challenges.
