The Lagos State Government is set to present retirement bond certificates to 780 employees who recently retired from its public service.

A statement from Press and Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Pension Commission, Mr. Taofeek Lawal, on Friday, said this was consistent with the resolve of the state Governor, Mr. Raji Fashola, to make life meaningful for workers after retirement.

It quoted the Director-General, LASPEC, Mr. Rotimi Hussain, as saying that the bond certificates' presentation this week would mark the eight edition of such fulfilment of the administration's commitment to giving its workers financial independence in retirement.

Before this batch, he said, about 2,604 retirees had been paid a total sum of N14.48bn.

He stated that the LASPEC had been working assiduously towards the realisation of its mission statement, which is, "to provide exceptional services on pension matters to employees in the Lagos State public service; deploying world-class technology and utilising well motivated workers to ensure financial freedom for its retirees."

He added this had continued to prompt it to render qualitative services to the state government's employees.

Hussain expressed appreciation to the governor for his support and commitment to the sustenance of the Contributory Pension Scheme.

He observed that while other states were still in the process of enacting their pension reform laws, Lagos State, with the support of the governor, had continued to grow stronger, thus setting standards for others to follow in the administration of the CPS.

The director-general advised all the retirees to live responsibly and should not engage in businesses that could put their retirement benefits at undue risk.
