President Goodluck Jonathan should enforce the Nigerian merchant navy, for an effective maritime operations, like any other maritime countries. The war Navy, should centre her operations on security, while the merchant navy whose discipline from study, is pure maritime, should be given a role to play in the Nigerian maritime sector. Cadets of maritime academies are roaming the streets jobless after four years of maritime studies. This increases the high rate of crime in the country. The functions of the War Navy are overlapping, as they are occupying the vacancies belonging to the merchant navy. The Nigerian Navy should hands off vessel operations to the merchant navy, and concentrate on security and stop chasing shadows.
