Weeks after she was said to have tendered her resignation letter due to ill health, Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Mrs. Funmilayo Olayinka, has died of cancer in Lagos on Saturday, April 6, 2013.
According to a terse statement from the late banker turned politician's family, Funmilayo, aged 52, passed on after her ailment defied treatment both home and abroad.
The family requested for privacy at this difficult time and asked for their prayers for the children and husband of the deceased.
A condolence register has opened at the Government House in Ado-Ekiti, while the Governor of the State, Arc. Kayode Fayemi is said to be on his way to Lagos to commiserate with the family.
She was survived by her husband and three children.
