IN 2012, money deposit banks in the country over-charged their customers over N6 billion and the newly established Consumer Protection Department of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has recovered the sum and returned it to customers.
The CBN Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi revealed this in Abuja Thursday at the annual Isaac Moghalu Foundation (IMOF) Lecture. The late Mr. Isaac Moghalu is the father of CBN's Deputy Governor in charge of Financial System Stability directorate, Kingsley Moghalu.
This year's symposium focused on women empowerment with the theme: "Women in leadership, the education pipeline."
Underscoring the importance of the theme of the lecture and the need to appoint women to sensitive task, Sanusi said the recovery of such whopping sum being extra charges by banks in Nigeria was accomplished by the bank's director of consumer protection, a woman whom he described as ruthless and hard working.
