Bamigbetan: Gani Adams OPC joins search, family anxious
Apr 17th 2013, 23:00

National Coordinator, Oodua People's Congress, Chief Ganiyu Adams, said the organisation had called  its coordinators to find the Chairman, Ejigbo Local Council Development, Lagos,  Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan.

Bamigbetan was kidnapped by gunmen on his way home from office around 11.30pm on Monday.

Adams said it was unfortunate that what used to happen to other states had crept into the South-West, stressing that the OPC would not tolerate the development.

When asked if his men heeded the call of the President and Founder of the OPC, Dr. Frederick Fasehun, he said "we are running a parallel organisation."

Adams said, "We will do everything at our disposal to get to the root of the kidnap. It is unfortunate that when the country is grappling with Boko Haram crisis, the kidnappers have the guts to come to our region and kidnap a local government chairman.

"I can assure you that those kidnappers will not have peace in the South-West and we will unravel them. Just one hour ago, my men told me that they had launched a manhunt for the kidnapped Kehinde Bamigbetan.

However, the family members had decided to remain quiet over the incident.

When our correspondent visited the Chairman's official residence at 21 Ona Iwa Mimo Street, Ejigbo, on Wednesday, the house was heavily guarded by policemen.

The family members were hostile to people, particularly journalists, as they felt their reports were likely to aggravate Bamigbetan's situation.

A group of four men came out to address the journalists, led by a fairly tall man who was referred to as the 'Vice'.

One of them, said, "We are not in any mood to talk to any press man now.

"You people are not giving the true picture of things; instead you write stories that could compound the issue.

Also, Chairmen of local governments and local council development areas in Lagos State said they were not contributing money to pay the ransom demanded for Bamigbetan's release.

The Chairman of Council chairmen, Mr. Sulaimon Akeem, has said,  "We never took such a decision. Such a thing is capable of causing further problems in the country. When I went to Bamigbetan's house, some reporters asked me to comment on the matter, I declined, telling them it was too early to comment on such sensitive matter.

"Let me reiterate here that we did not ask any chairman to pay N1m. The information is not true."

When interrogated further on whether they had heard from him (Bamigbetan) since his kidnap, he said he was not competent to speak on it.
