Follow @9jaLife   Over 500 policemen mostly junior officers and their families were yesterday ejected from the Onitsha Central Police Barracks and their makeshift structures destroyed by a combined team of policemen, bailiffs and executors. Nigerian Tribune gathered that the ejection was based on a court order that they should vacate the area since the tenure of their stay had expired. According to impeccable inside sources, the Ekwerekwu family of Onitsha leased the land to the police about 100 years ago and on expiration of the lease, the family went to court to recover the land and its prayer was granted. The victims, with their families were seen yesterday stranded in the sun making arrangements for an alternative place of abode. They accused the Onitsha Police Area Commander, Mr Benjamin Wordu, the Central Police Divisional Officer, Mr Tope and the state Police Commissioner, Mr Ballah Nasarawa, of collaborating with the said family to eject them without prior notice. They hinted that the buildings of senior officers were not touched while all the make-shift structures that housed the Junior ones were demolished. "Today they said they will continue to demolish the remaining ones" "Look at our property and families, no protection for them. The DPO and Area Commander with the State Commissioner were physically present and led the execution team", they said. In a swift reaction when contacted the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka said there was a court order that they should vacate the place, so the order is being executed, Police must obey court order". "The Ekwerekwu family of Onitsha leased out the land and in a bid to recover it after expiration of the lease, went to court and got judgment in her favour, that is the position", he hinted. "It is not Police land, the victims should be patient because with time the hiccups will be over", he concluded. Source Follow @9jaLife
