A portion of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway outward Lagos was blocked on Thursday evening after two truck smashed into vehicles riding beside them.
A witness said the accident occurred when a Volvo goods truck suddenly halted on the ascent near Michael Otedola Estate and started rolling backwards. It then hit a fuel tanker trailing it and both trucks smashed into two cars on the adjacent lane.
The Federal Road Safety Commission confirmed the crash, saying it diverted vehicles to the inward Lagos side of the expressway.
“The vehicles involved are FKJ 167 AX , Skoda saloon car; AH 723 SMK , Landrover Jeep; KSF 806 XC, Volvo truck; XB 166 NGL, a petrol tanker,” the FRSc said on its Facebook page.
It said its officials were at the scene “controlling traffic and on rescue services. Casualties not ascertained yet. Let those on that particular road now be patient and cautious please.”
A number of accidents have occurred at the same slope, leading to loss of lives and property.
