BY ANAYO OKOLI ORJI

UMUAHIA—Chairman of  Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State, Chief Emma Nwaka, said Thursday that freedom of association has a limit, noting that members of any given group reserved the right to make a choice of who to admit into its fold.

Nwaka, who was reacting to a question on why the party was catching cold over the planned return to the party by the former governor of the state, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, said the party was not in any way afraid of the former governor.

"We don't want somebody who will come and destabilize our party," the party chief said.
According to him, even the PDP constitution mandates the ward executives to reject any interested party.

He said:  "It is wrong to say Abia PDP is catching cold because of any person. Any person who wants to the party should follow the proper channel, which is the ward. Let him go to his ward and join.

"Freedom of association does not mean that can accept person. Even the Party constitution gives the ward executives power to reject somebody but the reason for the rejection must be given. It is for us to determine who to admit.
