There are a lot of factors that can negatively affect you in the work place, but for a large number of employees, fear is the biggest one. A new survey shows that fear is the biggest road block to innovation at work. The data from the survey ran by the Robert Half Group shows that 30 percent of employees rank "making a mistake" at work the highest on their list. The results also show that employees are afraid of fighting with their manager, difficult customers, public speaking and disagreements with co-workers in the office.
Interestingly enough, a lot of workers do not use half of their vacation days. It turns out that these employees are afraid that if they take all of their vacation, their companies will see them as slackers and fire them. It is due to this fear of getting fired that employees strive to seem both vital and dedicated, even though they do so by giving up their free time.
The data shows that only three percent of employees think of themselves as "fearless" which probably has to do with why innovation is lacking. Employees who cannot manage their fear can easily become stressed by both internal and external factors. When an employee feels safe at work then he or she can be creative and work passionately. Employees who are wrought with fear have less energy to give to their work. Without that confidence, employees will not feel comfortable enough to experiment at work, and in the end their fear might end up costing them their jobs.
