FIVE illegal petroleum trucks have been impounded and destroyed in Calabar by the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Pulo Shield, Sector 3 of the 13 Brigade Nigerian Army.
The Commander of 13 Brigade, Brig. Gen. Shehu Yusuf, said the products were intercepted at about 3.13 am on Sunday.
According to him, the trucks were carrying 200,000 litres of diesel with registration numbers Yobe XA 623 GJB, Kano SML-19 XA, Adamawa XA 569-MUB, Taraba XA 408 SDA and Cross River XA 477 KTA.
He said that the products believed to be from illegal bunkering were coming from Calabar South adding that the trucks' drivers escaped and ran into the bush.
Meanwhile, violence has continued unabated in Yobe State, as gunmen suspected of Boko Haram members on Monday killed the owner of popular pharmacy (name withheld) in Buni/Yadi council of the state.
An eyewitness and resident of Buni/Yadi, Luka Yohanna said that after assassinating the pharmacy owner, the gunmen rode on two motorcycles to the houses of two politicians, Alhaji Dipcha Liman and Dipchi Kura and robbed them of undisclosed amount of money and fled towards Biu-Gombe road.
The Yobe State Police Commissioner, Patrick Egbuniwe yesterday confirmed the report, adding that no arrest had been made, but urged residents to report any suspicious movement of individuals to the police.
Yusuf, pointed out that the taskforce was not ready to condone any illegal bunkering activity in the state, noting that, "we will not stop to nip the nefarious activities of bunkerers in the bud".
He called on other security agencies to share information and synergise in order to achieve the overall goal of stamping-out economic sabotage in the country.
