THE Defence Headquarters has organised a skill acquisition programme for both dependants of armed forces personnel and civilians in their community aimed at eradicating poverty among the ranks of the Nigerian military and the society.
The programme, which has in stock nine different trades comprising hairdressing and saloon management, agriculture and allied services, soap making, information and communication technology, event management, tailoring, catering, photo processing and heat transfer will be taught in eight different military locations within the country, and empowerment grant disbursed to the participants to kick start the trades they learnt.
Speaking at the opening ceremony held at the Command Day Secondary School hall, Ikeja Cantonment, the representative of Chief of Defence Staff and the Deputy Director, Personnel Services, Air Commodore Abiodun Olukayode Oyero said that the initiative is in tandem with the United Nation's Millennium Development Goals in the area of economic empowerment.
