TICKER: British paper reports: "Man caught illegally smuggling 36 giant African land snails into Glasgow", it's a Nigerian travelling with snails Sep 20th 2012, 15:56 WHEN a group of 36 stowaways were collared at Glasgow Airport, there was no chance of a quick getaway. That's because the crafty gang were giant African land snails found in the luggage of a ­Nigerian man. The illegal imports, each six inches long and with shells the size of a small fist, were alive. They were seized because the man did not have an import license. But when the man was caught by UK Border Force officers earlier this month, he said they were going to be eaten. Experts fear they could pass on diseases to British snails if released into the wild. Murdo MacMillan, of the Border Force in Scotland, said: "Do not attempt to bring live animals into the UK without a permit." - Daily Record
